The St Andrews fiddle retreat hosted by Katherine Moller was very well organized and the venue was an eclectic experience. The number of participants was just the right size and the players were of similar abilities and interest. The pace was perfect nobody was left behind and nobody appeared impatient.
The workshop tunes definitely challenged us but having Katherine’s demonstrations and how to tips and techniques gave us things to work on post-retreat. I really appreciated having the sound files (slow, medium and fast) and sheet music ahead of time. Some fiddle camps insist on learning by ear and repetition of tunes you never heard before and likely will never play again. Since the retreat I’ve actually been playing along to the sound files with earphones and find it helps me keep in tune and challenges me to keep in time.

We had a great weekend, just past at the Salty Towers Inn, in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, where Katherine Moller, held her fiddle workshop. The hosts were fabulous, providing us with the best of everything. We worked on 6 new fiddle tunes, and even had a jam on Sunday evening. I must also mention the Whale Watching tour with Quoddy Link Marine, we saw whales, porpoises, harbour seals and grey seals.
The weather was terrific, fantastic meals at the many local restaurants, and the participants were up for a fun learning time. I would suggest that if one gets a chance to participate in this workshop in the future, please do so, you won’t be disappointed! St. Andrews by the Sea, is a most charming venue for such an event!
